Non Semper Optimus Vincit
A quite superb evening enjoyed by 46 of us at dinner, at the AGM 24 Yachties crammed into The Moorings Office, and Catrina entertained 23 Yachtesses at her lovely new home. Thanks go to Catrina, and to the Powell's who provided the bubbly (2 bottles from Norfolk I believe) and subb'ed Happy Hour. We began early at 6.00pm, the AGM was as ever a lively occasion, during which we said goodbye to Commodore Hosie and hello to Commodore Powell, so we have a new leader today!
Norman Shanks is now Vice Commodore and Rod Harris Rear Commodore. A new post was created of Guide Dog, abely filled by Roger Penfold who will act as PA to John Powell particularly in anything involving reading. In view of these additional responsibilities, Roger stepped aside as Membership Secretary, with Barry Ansell appointed to that role. All other Officers moved up one, I attach the new list of Officers. After the AGM we met with our ladies at The Squire who did a great job, the food was excellent and service good. Bruce made some parting remarks and presentations, and in turn he was presented by Commodore Powell with a framed photo of all of us in the Isle of Man. Bruce has taken the title of Lord Barton Hill, and Martyn Lansdown awarded his knighthood as Sir Martyn of the Brush.
After some hearty singing from the CSYC songbook, we all drifted off happy in the knowledge that we have an inspirational new Commodore and lots of great events to.

Application for swing bridge over River Frome
On 1st April 2015, plans drawn up by the Chipping Sodbury Yacht Club for a new swing bridge over the River Frome at Waitrose were submitted to South Gloucestershire Council.
Members will know that since the Waitrose bridge was erected, the CSYC has been unable to sail its yachts past the bridge across the River Frome which is very frustrating for sailing folk wishing to sail from Chipping Sodbury through to Bristol docks and beyond to the Bristol Channel. The CSYC has carefully studied swing bridges currently in use, and has concluded that the type of electronically operated swing bridge such as is on the Exeter canal at Countess Wear (pictured), would work very well. I am very familiar with this bridge and it has never let me down whilst travelling over it. The club hopes to obtain rapid planning approval enabling the new bridge to be dropped into place in time for its regatta on the River Frome in August 2015.
